It demonstrates that a stable and significant transnation Transnationalism is a social phenomenon and scholarly research agenda grown out of the heightened interconnectivity between people and the receding economic and social significance of boundaries among nation states. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses on 19th to 21st Century German literature and culture, world literature in translation, migration in the German and European context, book- and digital cultural histories, and theories of cosmopolitanism, globalization, post-colonialism, and transnationalism. Following the major globalisation debates of the last few decades, transnationalism is one of the most important and promising approaches emerging at the beginning of the 21st century. The theory maintains a global view, but allows for empirical analysis of the social, political, economic and cultural phenomena indigenous to different societies. Much of the literature on migrant transnationalism focuses on the ways that specific sociocultural institutions have been modified in the course of being stretched across the globe. Yet migrant transnational practices are involved in more deep-seated patterns of change or structural transformation.
